Located at the intersection of High and Perry Streets rests the Cody Home, a transitional Federal-Greek Revival one-story home with a front door frame, fanlight and sidelights in the Adamesque style. This house is believed to be Montgomery’s oldest surviving downtown residence, built in 1830. A small front porch with columns supporting a pediment was once a stoop enclosed by a trellis. The foundation of the house is of hand-hewn logs held together with square-head nails. The interior has been drastically remodeled, and all of the original woodwork has been removed. Originally the house had six rooms, but in 1902 it was enlarged to twelve. In an effort to restore the home, SS&L renovated the building and transformed the space for office tenants. The structure showcases classic white clapboard siding paired with elegant dark green shutters and sashes, topped off with a charming wood shake-look roof. This home is on the National Register of Historic Places.
