The Fuel Cell and Corrosion Control Facility is a LEED Silver Certified building at Dannelly Air Base for the Alabama Air National Guard’s 187th Fighter Wing. The project utilized numerous sustainable design attributes to achieve the LEED certification while providing the owner with a state-of-the-art maintenance facility for the then F-16, now F-35 mission. The exterior of the building uses brick, stone, and metal panels to provide a relatively maintenance-free and attractive exterior façade complementing the existing architecture of the base. The two main hangar bays are properly configured and equipped for fuel cell maintenance in accordance with OSHA and AFOSH standards, enabling reduced aircraft downtime. A third facility bay is designed for aircraft washing, corrosion control, and spot painting, and the bay is furnished with ventilation, environmental control, and fire suppression systems. Areas for solvent cleaning, bead blasting, and painting of small aircraft parts are also provided.
