Dannelly Field is home to the Alabama Air National Guard 187th Fighter Wing. This 2009 Award-Winning Headquarters building provides auditorium, admin., training, and command post spaces to support the current mission: an increased fighter mission and/or an alternative C-130 mission. The New Composite Operations and Training Facility at Dannelly Field combines related functions from separate parts of the base into one building to make the entire base operate more efficiently and provide a central location for leadership, administration, and deployment. While not submitted for LEED certification, principles are embedded into the design. These engineered strategies will enable the life-cycle costs of the building to be significantly less than a typical building. The use of natural daylighting, zoned & high-efficiency HVAC systems, reduction of solar heat gain, building orientation, low-flow fixtures, and energy monitoring systems will allow the building to be cost-effective for its entire life cycle, and will also decrease its environmental footprint.
