Adding to Leadership: Two Promoted to Director

May 11, 2026

We are proud to announce the promotion of Cody Smith [pictured left] and Nick Bishop [pictured right] to Directors at SS&L. Over their careers, Cody and Nick have collectively contributed their skills to well over $100 million in projects across the Southeast.

“Nick and Cody represent the values that define what we do, embracing SS&L’s mission of service. We are grateful for their contributions and confident in the continued impact they will make in this new role.” — Wes Osmer, Senior Principal Architect

Cody graduated from Mississippi State University with his Bachelor of Architecture in 2017 and began his career with SS&L in our Montgomery office following graduation. In 2025, Cody and his family moved to the Huntsville area to better support our firm’s recent and projected growth in the market. Cody’s project experience ranges from higher education and municipal work to industrial facilities and more, most recently serving as the Project Manager for major capital projects at Troy University and with the Retirement Systems of Alabama. Cody is active in many professional organizations, including the AIA Montgomery and Huntsville Chapters and the Alabama Center for Architecture.

In Cody’s words, he is honored to move into this new role with the firm. Over the past decade, Cody says the firm has shaped how he thinks about design, leadership, and service to others. He is excited to build on that foundation by supporting our people, expanding our growth in the North Alabama market, and continuing to deliver “Quality by Design” to clients.

Nick Bishop is a 2010 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Architecture and began his career with SS&L in our Montgomery office. Since joining the firm in 2012, Nick has risen to manage projects totaling nearly $60 million in construction costs. He leads the firm’s extensive portfolio of U.S. Postal Service projects, which span the Southeastern United States, while also contributing to other project sectors, including K-12 educational facilities. Beyond his professional life, Nick is an engaged and dedicated community member. He is active in the Kiwanis Club, contributing to the betterment of Montgomery through service and leadership.

“It’s easy to wake up and come to work every morning when you enjoy what you do and the people you do it with,” stated Nick. He further noted that he is excited to see what the next chapter at SS&L has in store.

Congratulations, Nick and Cody!
