Originally opened in 1915, the Dothan Opera House has served as a center for arts, entertainment, and community gatherings in downtown Dothan for more than a century. The restoration and addition preserve the historic character of the landmark venue while improving its functionality, accessibility, and performance capabilities for continued use by future generations. The project also supports the broader Dothan City Center Design and Redevelopment Plan, which seeks to strengthen downtown through new civic spaces, cultural amenities, businesses, and public investment. The restored Opera House anchors the city’s renewed cultural district while preserving an important piece of Dothan’s architectural and civic history.

Working closely with the City of Dothan and community stakeholders, the project restored the historic auditorium and introduced improvements that respond to the needs of modern performances and events. Upgrades to lighting, acoustics, and audio-visual systems improve the experience for both audiences and performers while respecting the architectural features that define the Opera House. ADA-compliant improvements provide greater accessibility throughout the facility.

A new pre-function addition and entry expand the Opera House beyond the auditorium, providing a dedicated social and gathering space before and after performances. The addition improves circulation and creates a stronger connection between the venue and the surrounding downtown area while complementing the scale and character of the historic structure
