SS&L is honored to announce that Jones Hall at Troy University has been awarded three 2025 Architecture & Design Awards.
Platinum Award for Healthcare Buildings in the Professional Category
Platinum Award for Healthcare Facility Interiors in the Professional Category
Silver Award for Educational Facilities in the Professional Category
Serving as a new academic anchor at the northeastern gateway to Troy’s campus, Jones Hall unites the University’s Nursing and Kinesiology & Health Promotion (KHP) programs within a state-of-the-art, forward-thinking facility. Designed to blend Troy’s traditional Georgian architectural language with contemporary expression, the building features a symmetrical red-brick façade crowned with a cupola, balanced by a sweeping two-story glass curtainwall that brings light, transparency, and connection to the heart of campus.

Inside, the design continues this harmony of tradition and innovation. A two-story lobby establishes a sense of arrival and community, complemented by warm wood tones, soft seating, and natural light that fills corridors and learning spaces. Biophilic design principles, nature-inspired textures, and subtle touches of Troy’s cardinal red infuse the interiors with warmth and identity—redefining expectations for healthcare and academic environments.

Programmatically, Jones Hall supports advanced teaching and research with a 150-seat edu-flex lecture hall capable of accommodating both in-person and distance learning, complete with integrated technology for nursing demonstrations. The simulation lab and adjacent skills lab provide immersive, hands-on training for nursing students, while kinesiology spaces—including a blood analysis lab and movement education lab—enhance research and community engagement, even supporting homeschool physical education courses in Pike County.

Built into a natural slope, the facility discreetly incorporates an ICC-500-rated storm shelter within its southern elevation, ensuring both safety and structural efficiency. An adjacent landscaped courtyard fosters reflection and connection, extending the spirit of learning beyond the building’s walls. Jones Hall stands as a testament to Troy University’s commitment to innovation in health sciences education and to SS&L’s mission of designing spaces that unite function, beauty, and community.
